RESUMO:

This dissertation deals with the review of the phonology of the Mẽbêngôkre language spoken by the Mẽtyktire people, known as Kayapó, whose territory is located in the municipality of Peixoto de Azevedo, in Mato Grosso. The choice of this theme is due to the fact that, with the expansion of the use of writing by the new generations, both in formal and informal situations, speakers have adopted different forms of registering the language, since there are doubts about the written representation of some sounds because there is no orthographic standardization. Reviewing the phonology of the Mẽbêngôkre language is important, especially for literacy teachers who are responsible for teaching children to write. Aware of how the phonemes of the language work, they will be able to be more confident in resolving possible doubts regarding the way of writing certain words, thus contributing to the expansion of literacy practices typical of the Mẽbêngôkre culture. For the segmental phonological analysis of the language, we base ourselves on the traditional principles of Prague Phonology, establishing contrast/distinctive opposition relations, minimal and analogous pairs, free and conditioned variation, in the identification of phonemes and allophones. The analysis of larger units, such as the syllable, and suprasegments, such as stress, was based on Autosegmental Phonology (Goldsmith 1995). Regarding the pedagogical aspect of the research, as it is a professional master's degree, focused on teaching, we refer to the guidelines of the National Curricular Reference for Indigenous Schools (RCNEI), as well as to other authors who deal with language teaching motherhood at school, considering that this phonological review will contribute to literacy in schools of our Mẽbêngôkre people. Based on this work, the master's student will produce specific material to support mother tongue teaching at school, both in the early and final years.
