RESUMO:

This work is the result of a research project developed in the Graduate Program in Teaching in an Intercultural Indigenous Context. It aims to strengthen pedagogical practices in mathematics teaching at the Julá Paré Indigenous Full-Time School by using ethnomathematics, which is present in the making of Balatiponé material culture baskets, such as those made from buriti, babassu, and urubamba fibers. This work aims to develop teaching strategies in the areas of mathematics, natural sciences, language, and social sciences, which are areas covered in the National Common Core Curricular Program. The research theme was ethnomathematics and material culture: the knowledge produced in Balatiponé basketry, as its weaves present mathematical and geometric concepts. The methodology used to develop the research was participatory observation, with 9th grade students from the Julá Paré Indigenous State School, located within the Umutina Indigenous territory, Umutina village, municipality of Barra do Bugres/MT. The research took place within the territory with the participation of artisans and teachers. The expected result reflects the reality of the school and the students, who demonstrated great interest in both the creation of the artifacts and the knowledge transmitted by the elders. Through this research, the aim is to strengthen intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue at the Julá Paré Indigenous School, based on the investigation of ethnomathematics and the knowledge present in the creation of the braids under study. This will allow for the articulation of these teachings with pedagogical practices.
