This research focuses on the comparison of the lyrics of Ernesto Cardenal Martínez and Dom PedroCasaldáliga, contrasting their works: on the one hand, the poem “Canto de la hoz y el haz” by the Spanish
poet and bishop naturalized Brazilian and, on the other, the so-called “Salmo 57” by the Nicaraguan
priest, revolutionary and poet. To this end, this research addresses the main characteristics of the so-called
Liberation Theology, a theory to which our poets adhere. In this way, we will be able to ascertain the
social context in which the writers were inserted and then expand on their biographies. We will therefore
focus our work on the individual analysis of two poems from each of them: “Identidad” and “Trovas al
Cristo libertador” by Pedro Casaldáliga and “Salmo 48” and “Reflexiones de un Ministro” by Ernesto
Cardenal Martínez. To this end, we propose an analytical approach to the poetic phenomenon through the
use of the hermeneutic method to proceed with the subsequent interpretation and reflection on the chosen
texts, thus being able to establish the links between the authors’ works. To address the phenomenon, we
will use authors such as: Aristotle (1991), Karl Marx (2013), Octavio Paz (1956), Antônio Candido
(2000), Ezra Pound (2006), Thomas Hobbes (2003), Jean Jaques Rosseau (1999), Nicolau Maquiavel
(2004), Carl Von Clausewitz (2009), Benjamin Abdala Junior (2007) among others that may be necessary.

This research proposes an analytical-literary study of the narrative voice in Daniel Keyes' novel Flowers for Algernon. The novel tells the story of the protagonist Charlie Gordon, who has an intellectual disability and undergoes surgery to increase his intelligence. The narrative, told in the form of progress reports, follows the young man's journey as a subject of the experiment, previously conducted only on the rat Algernon, who gives the book its name. The research aims to understand the construction of the character-narrator and its transformations throughout the narrative, also considering the ethical and social issues related to intellectual disability. To this end, the research will be based on authors such as Benjamin (1985), Booth (2022), Friedman (2002) e Candido (2006), Suvin (2015), among others. Reflections on Keyes' work (2018) will seek an approach that can contribute to the construction of a critical analysis of the novel in the field of literary studies.

Não Presta Pra Nada (2016) is a collection of short stories that delves into the complexities of the female experience, weaving narratives that intertwine with social reality and human relationships. The author, Marta Helena Cocco, builds a mosaic of strong and resilient female characters who face challenges and overcome obstacles in an often hostile world. The research is structured in three chapters, the first dedicated to a historical overview of reading and the insertion of women in this universe, based on Lajolo & Zilberman (2019); it investigates the formation of the reader and literary literacy based on Cosson (2006); and analyzes the theories that support the understanding of literary reading, as well as the texts on the aesthetics of reception by Iser (1996) and Jauss (1994). The second chapter delves into the discussion on female writing, focusing on the Brazilian and Mato Grosso contexts. The analysis is based on Gagnebin's (1997) theories, followed by Marina Warner's (1999) view on the role of women as narrators, highlighting sensitivity as a striking characteristic of this role. Historian Michelle Perrot (2005) contributes to the analysis by discussing the silence imposed on women and the expectation that they would exclusively occupy the domestic space. Based on the studies of Walker (2018) and Nadaf (2004), a critical analysis of female literary production in Mato Grosso is made, highlighting the specificities and challenges faced by female writers from Mato Grosso. Finally, the analysis of three short stories from the literary work Não presta pra nada (2016), by Marta Helena Cocco: “Cinco Marias”, “Roupa sujo” and “Palavras difícil”.

The identity constitution of the characters in Torto arado, by Itamar Vieira Júnior, who are descendants of enslaved blacks who were subjected to the African diasporic phenomenon, is the scope of this master's thesis. The proposal is to investigate the intricacies of the inseparable relationship between identity and place, amid the traumas generated by slavery in Brazil, and the effects of this intersection on the expansion of identity consciousness and emancipation of the characters in the narrative. The dynamic linking the subject to the land is questioned by the descendants of enslaved Africans who were forcibly removed from their homelands and historically condemned to nowhere, a place where the inferiority complex dwells (Fanon, 2008). In the novel, this “nowhere” is named by the expression “viver de morada”. (Vieira Júnior, 2019, p.179). The plot covers the complexity of the migrant subject's identity composition from Africa, considering that diaspora and forced displacement promote multiple identities (Hall, 2003) and that identities change in relation to other identities, to other real or imaginary territories (Glissan, 2011). By contextualizing the reverberations of the diaspora for identity issues and echoing the importance of recognition in their individualities (Bhabha, 2018), Torto arado dialogues with Brazilian society about the right to exist of this historically invisible and silenced population, but which can fight against this subjection (Spivak, 2010). The voices of the black characters provoke a literary shift to a different perspective (Candido, 1995) and lead the reader to reflect and rethink the presence and place of black people in Brazilian society, who have historically been relegated to social marginalization.  By taking ownership of their individual and collective identities and assuming the status of quilombolas, the families of Água Negra de Torto arado take a stance of confrontation against the exploitative regime that has traditionally served the descendants of Africans in Brazil.

This study looks at the work I Believe in Justice and Hope (1978) by Pedro Casaldáliga and investigates the presence of elements that can establish dialogues with the genres of testimonial literature, autobiography, autofiction and diary, which encompass the universe of self-writing. Supported by the studies of Seligmann-Silva (2003) (2005), Philippe Lejeune (2008) (2013), Faedrich (2014), Figueiredo (2022) and Noronha (2016), we sought to delineate which of the aforementioned genres Casaldáliga's work is based on, whose formal structure is different. Our hypothesis that the work is a textual hybrid was proven when we found the presence of testimony in an autobiography, brushed with excerpts from a diary, making it an intriguing narrative to read. As for autofiction, we understand that the reading pact it obeys (ambiguity) does not match the author's writing context. The observations also showed that Casaldal's prose contributes to the resemanticization of literary productions that emerge outside the canonical molds.

This thesis has, as its central objective, the study of the literary work entitled: Ikuiapá: na boca do Pari (2020), by Anna Maria Ribeiro Costa and Rosemar Eurico Coenga, and the implementation of a mediation project for literary reading focused on teaching youth literature in the context of the classroom. The scientific research looks at how the cultural and identity representations present in the literary work in question contribute to the formation of critical-reflective readers, in addition to proposing literary reading mediation strategies that promote more fluid reading in an educational context. The methodology employed for this study was a critical approach so that we could examine the literary materiality of the work, focusing on the significance of myths and identity in the process of (re)construction and (re)formulation of the readers. Moreover, we propose a reading mediation that includes methodologies related to literary literacy, the receptive method and active methodologies, with the aim of promoting the practice of literary reading in teaching. Finally, we trust that this research can contribute to the construction of a literary reading mediation program that recognizes socio-cultural identity and, at the same time, supports the development of critical and reflective thinking in and among schoolchildren.

This dissertation aims to analyze some poems from the work Jardim de Ossos (2020), written by the author Marli Walker. The selected compositions stand out for using the metaphor of bones as a symbol of the experiences acquired over time, a term used in the title of this work to encompass personal and collective experiences, the marks of the past, and the cultural legacies that shape the identity of individuals. The work deeply addresses issues such as memory, understood, based on Giorgio Agamben (2009), as a critical relationship with time, allowing the individual to revisit the past in order to understand the present; identity, seen as a subjective and socially mediated construction, in line with Antonio Candido (1995), who emphasizes literature’s ability to transpose reality into imagination; cultural heritage, referring to the transmission of traditions and knowledge over time, as explored by Manuel de Barros (2005), highlighting the transformative power of poetry in giving meaning to the ordinary; and the complex connection between past and present, which in Walker's work is expressed by the continuous resurrection of the past in the present, in a process that Jean-Luc Nancy (2005) considers an essential part of poetic creation, always in construction and open to multiple interpretations.

The research involves the contemporary Brazilian novel Pai, Pai (2017), by João Sіlvérіo Trеvіsаn, focusing on its absence as a prеsеn This is the conflict that shapes the journey of the narrator-protagonist, João. It explores the childhood of the character left behind by experiences It's painful and traumatic, exposing themes such as guilt, paternal abandonment, homophobia and the struggle for recognition of homoerotic desire. These elements compose a dіеgеsе romantic romance, in which João is faced with nothing you society, but also deep questions about your identity and sex. The research adopts a theoretical framework that includes researchers such as Bаtаіllе (1987), Bаrthеs (2018), Foucаult (1984), Sеdgwіck (2003) and Rіcoеur (2007), whose tеorіаs ofеrеcеm pеrspеctіvаns critіcаs to explore а complex of tеmatіcаs approaches nа work dе Trevisan. The theoretical basis employed here circumspects the novel in terms of identity, desire, desolation and memory, topics that are always linked to the narrative voice in question. In this sense, when addressing issues related to literary homoeroticism, as well as identity, the research aims to contribute to the understanding of literary representations of masculinities and different experiences in literature, while also valuing literary elements as statutes of enunciation for such discourses.

Brazilian children's and young adult literature has historically neglected racial diversity,  perpetuating stereotypes and rendering the Black population invisible. This dissertation  analyzes contemporary children's literature, focusing on the representation of Black girls' hair  through the book Cabelo Ruim? (2006) by Neusa Baptista Pinto. The research is based on the  understanding that structural racism manifests in literature and education, directly impacting  the self-esteem and identity of Black children. The study proposes that children's and young  adult literature, when committed to valuing diversity, can serve as a tool for deconstructing  racist standards and promoting anti-racist education. In this regard, it investigates how the  analyzed work addresses issues of racism and self-acceptance, as well as examines the impact  of narratives on the construction of racial identity in childhood. The theoretical framework  includes authors such as Regina Zilberman, Nilma Lino Gomes, and Stuart Hall, along with  approaches from Decolonial Studies, including Frantz Fanon and Aníbal Quijano. The  adopted methodology is based on qualitative and interpretative analysis, considering the role  of literature in social formation and in building a more inclusive imaginary. The research also  dialogues with the tradition of children's and young adult literature in Brazil, particularly in  Mato Grosso, and its relationship with dominant ideology, highlighting how Black characters  have been historically portrayed. The dissertation reinforces the importance of narratives that  promote the empowerment of Black identity from childhood and the need for more inclusive  educational practices. It concludes that literature not only reflects society but can also act as  an agent of transformation, contributing to a more egalitarian and representative environment  for all children.  | |

This dissertation analyzed the works Poemas da recordação e Outros Movimentos (Poems of Remembrance and Other Movements, 2008), by the writer Conceição Evaristo, and Na pele (On the Skin, 2020), by Luciene Carvalho. Through these works, we investigated the articulation of female identities through poetic texts written by black women, with the aim of understanding the links between poetry and the social context, especially with regard to themes related to identity, culture and the resistance of black women in society. The aim was to investigate the female representations present in the poems, as well as their historical, social and political contexts, highlighting the importance of literature written by black women for Brazilian literature. We therefore sought to analyze, based on the poems selected, the configurations that establish the place of black women in the contemporary world, as well as the structures that directly impact the mobility of these bodies, through the voices and experiences of black women that echo in the works studied. We used the analytical assumptions of comparative studies to establish a critical dialog between the works, considering their cultural, aesthetic and historical contexts. In the light of the concepts established by Candido (1996, 2006) and Paz (1984), we analyze the aesthetic and structural aspects of the selected poems. In order to deepen the reflections on black women's literature and the importance of the protagonism and authorship of black women in/of literary works, we used the theoretical postulates formulated by authors who discuss black feminism, such as: Collins (2016); Carneiro (1985, 2004, 2005); Davis (2018); Dalcastagnè (2014); Gonzalez (1982, 2010); Oyewùmi (2021); Ribeiro (2019); Santos (2021); Santiago (2010); among others.

This study discusses literary literacy as a tool for female empowerment and self-development, investigating the impact of Marina Colasanti's short stories on the engagement of adolescent readers. The research explores how narratives addressing themes of gender and identity foster critical reflection and emotional connection, going beyond the technical skills of reading. Stories such as Para que ninguém a quisesse (So That No One Would Want Her), Entre a Espada e a Rosa (Between the Sword and the Rose), Entre as folhas do verde O (Among the Leaves of the Green O), and A Moça Tecelã (The Weaving Girl) served as the basis for reading workshops conducted with high school students, encouraging them to explore and create their own narratives, promoting both reading pleasure and the development of self-awareness. Anchored in theorists such as Soares (2006, 2009), Cosson (2012), Candido (1995, 2011), Lajolo (1993), and Freire (1989, 2007), the research highlights the role of literature as a fundamental social practice for building critical and emancipatory awareness. Inspired by the theories of Beauvoir (1970) and Butler (2003), which address the social construction of gender identity, literature is considered a powerful means for deconstructing stereotypes, offering readers tools to understand the dynamics of power that shape identity. Jouve (2002) contributes the view of reading as a path to self-knowledge, while Todorov (2010) and Zilberman (2009) emphasize literature as a humanizing and emancipatory medium, essential to the critical formation of young people. The study highlights how Colasanti's short stories foster awareness of identity and female empowerment, especially through characters who challenge patriarchal norms and assert their autonomy. It concludes that literary literacy, mediated through narratives such as Colasanti’s, not only promotes empowerment and identity awareness but also shapes engaged and reflective readers, prepared to interact with the world and contribute to building a more just and gender-sensitive society.

This research investigates the aesthetic-literary configuration of two essential elements in the architecture of Carla Madeira's contemporary Brazilian novel "Tudo é Rio" (2014): eroticism and the feminine. In this context, we also aim to understand the experiences of exclusion, discrimination, and resistance engendered by the figure of the prostitute in the novel. For this research, we will analyze the symbolic characteristics of the character Lucy, a prostitute and antagonist of the narrative. We will also observe how the protagonist of the work, Dalva, possesses a character structure that characterizes her as the opposite of Lucy. Therefore, from the perspective of studies conducted within the scope of literary erotics, we analyze not only the configural process of both characters but also perceive, in the Brazilian literary tradition, the path of the saint and the debauched, or of the dove and the serpent. In the meantime, we will use, as a theoretical foundation, primarily, authors such as Eliane Robert Moraes (2019; 2013), Antonio Candido (2006; 2002), Georges Bataille (2013) and Leyla Perrone-Moisés (2016).

This thesisfalls within the area of Literature and Social Life in Portuguese-Speaking Countries of the
Postgraduate Program in Literary Studies (PPGEL) and aims to take a look at the works
written by two black women from Portuguese-speaking countries who have in common the
desire to use writing as a way of deconstructing the stereotype of black women that has been
established in Western society as hypersexualized, subordinated and invisible. The works
analyzed are: Ponciá Vicêncio, by Afro-Brazilian Conceição Evaristo and A Candidata, by
Cape Verdean Vera Duarte. In this study, we identify the similarities and dissimilarities in the
romance production of these writers. The proposal was to conduct an investigation that
addressed the convergent or even divergent recurrences in the selected corpus of both writers,
in such a way as to allow us to elucidate the forms of survival and resistance of female
characters in their societies. Also, through the analysis of the works, we present contributions
that corroborate the advancement of research focused on the study of the bildungsroman in
female literary productions. Since this is bibliographical research, we base our inferences on
a heterogeneous theoretical contribution: Angela Davis (2016), Antonio Candido (2000), bell
hooks (2018), Benjamin Abdala Junior (2023), Cristina Ferreira Pinto (1990), Cuti (2010),
Édouard Glissant (2005), Elaine Showalter (1994), Frantz Fanon (2022), Grada Kilomba
(2019), Homi Bhabha (1998), Inocência Mata (2023), Lélia Gonzalez (2020), Norma Rosa
Lima (2024), Regina Dalcastagnè (2012), Simone Caputo Gomes (2019), Stuart Hall (2016),
among other theorists. Thus, through the authors' writing, we list the strategies that allowed
the characters to resist and survive in essentially patriarchal societies. Both works present a
bildungsroman that breaks away from the traditional model of the concept, as both Conceição
Evaristo and Vera Duarte transfigure and anthropologize it by giving a harmonious outcome
to the female characters.

This thesis investigates 19th-century Ibero-American chronicle literature through a comparative analysis of two representative authors: the Brazilian Machado de Assis and the Nicaraguan Rubén Darío. As a focus, eight chronicles published during the 1890s are examined, which, in their content, provide some qualitative criticism of 19th-century writers. For the Brazilian chronicler, the selection is based on four chronicles published in A Semana in the Rio de Janeiro newspaper Gazeta de Notícias, specifically on the following dates: November 11, 1894; June 23, 1895; January 19, 1896; and December 27, 1896. For the Hispanic-American chronicler, the corpus includes four texts published in the Argentine newspaper La Nación and later compiled in the work Los Raros, profiling the following authors: Eugénio de Castro, Rachilde, Jean Richepin, and Max Nordau. Through a systematic review encompassing the journalism-literature, Europe-America, and feuilleton-chronicle binaries, as well as the study of literary-journalistic practices in late 19th-century American journalism, it is possible to observe several points of convergence between Brazilian and Hispanic-American chronicles, especially concerning critical interface, although the intracontinental relationship between these two regions is less emphasized in current academic studies. The theoretical framework includes studies by Brazilian scholars José Marques de Melo (1992), Marlyse Meyer (1992), Lúcia Granja (2000, 2010, 2015), Marcus Soares (2014); Hispanic scholars Ángel Rama (1982, 1985), Aníbal González (1983), Susana Rotker (2005); and Francophone scholars Marie-Ève Thérenty (2007, 2012, 2015), Alain Vaillant (2009, 2015), and Lise Andries (2011).

This is research that investigates the reading practices of women – students at penitentiary school Ana Maria do Couto May- MT, therefore, in the midst of adversity. The study encourages us to reflect on the reading stories recalled by the students participating in the research, in the present time, in order to understand their stories, meanings and meanings that, in an adverse context – serving a sentence –, that institution gives to the readings carried out there. The broader objective of the research is to understand and verify the stories, senses and meanings of reading that women in crisis contexts give to readings carried out in prison situations, and specific ones – to observe the factors that reinforce or limit reading practices in the prison space; observe how reading helps in the process of subjectivation of the interviewees; know which texts help you live in complex times. Although reading is recognized as a fundamental right, we are faced with problems present in a large part of our society, such as the low circulation of written culture in family, school, and prison institutions and the scarcity of reading programs and mediators of reading practice. As well as the absence of libraries in schools and other spaces – such as prisons. In this context, we use methodological approaches that are consistent with the study, in particular, the qualitative ethnographic approach, proposed by Michèle Petit, linked to the anthropology of meaning construction – inherent to the exercise of reading. In order to respond to the data collection proposal, we used Oral History as a “method”, which is “used as the most complete solution of scientific practice, valuing interviews, with essential attention to studies, centralizing them as a central, privileged, basic point of analysis” of students sometimes socially in confrontation with the law (Meihy and Holanda, 2020), just as we seek support in the studies of Petit (2010) who investigates the art of reading in contexts of adverse, as well as in authors who recognize reading as a cultural and social practice linked to the history of readers, such as Chartier (1988) and Horellou-Lafarge and Segré, linked to the sociology of reading (2010). In this universe, we were able to observe that the students interviewed read, in addition to the knowledge they desire, in search of new meanings and meanings through unique appropriations of the books they read, which, in difficult times, according to Petit (2010), can contribute to the reconstruction of themselves, acquiring strength to “sew sadness” and resist diversity

The present work aims to understand how the presence of a testimonial narrator in the poems of contemporary writer Wanderley Wasconcelos, in addition to reconstituting a human and cultural cartography full of social references, memories and characters with a common history of struggle for land, has the ability to brush history goes against the grain, revealing the violence involved in the implementation of large agricultural projects in the Araguaia region, in Mato Grosso, particularly during the period of military government in Brazil. When telling his story, the narrator of Wasconcelos' poems brings the tradition of the oppressed and the current Benjaminian concept that points to the linear model of capitalist progress as a producer of catastrophes. Concept that comprises the narratives repressed by official historiography as an ethical and savior counterpoint to the colonial model of domination that, historically, has made peasant minorities invisible who seek alternatives to escape oppression and poverty. As a reference we use, among other theoretical contributions, the concepts of history, memory, trauma and testimony brought by Walter Benjamin, Márcio Seligmann-Silva, Jeanne Marie Gagnebin and studies on the history of the Araguaia region by Juliana Cristina da Rosa   | |

Maria Valéria Rezende's writing is marked by a strong engagement with socio-political issues, exposing the inequalities and injustices present in the country through underprivileged characters. Her works promote empathy and awareness by creating humanized narrative subjects, offering an alternative perspective on living in society, more open to welcoming the marginalized, invisible, vulnerable and subaltern. In this thesis, two of her novels were chosen as the object of study: Quarenta dias (2014) and Outros cantos (2016), with a focus on analyzing the women narrators in both works. Both Alice, in Quarenta dias, and Maria, in Outros cantos, are displaced characters who dialogue, in an organic and natural way, with those made invisible by public authorities and society, allowing these voices to tell their stories. This narrative style reveals narrators who adopt a posture of active and receptive listening, providing a safe space for dialog and for the protagonism of other figures, demonstrating an interactional horizontality. This protagonism is diffuse, inclusive and democratic, questioning the egocentric practices of contemporaneity. In this context, the aim of this study is to analyze these narrators who, even with a high level of education and experience, relate without hierarchies to marginalized and vulnerable subjects, whether they are homeless people on the outskirts of a suburb in the South of the country, or inhabitants of a village in the Northeast. Based on a decolonial and feminist approach, I argue that the narrators of the novels articulate theories from different areas of knowledge in their practices. To this end, I establish a theoretical-analytical dialog with authors such as Acosta (2016), Bakhtin (1993; 2015; 2018; 2019), Diniz (2022), Dussel (1995; 2012), hooks (2019; 2022), Rancière (2009), Vebara (2022), among others, in order to relate concepts that contribute to the interpretation of the novels.

The present thesis focuses on the study and analysis of the plays Quando as máquinas param, O abajur lilás, Dois Perdidos numa noite suja and Querô, uma reportagem maldita, by Plínio Marcos. These plays are defined as a modern tragedy, according to Raymond Williams (2002) in his theory on tragedy, considering the structure of Greek and Shakespearean tragedies, as well as human experience, rules of conduct, and the behavior of society in the 20th century. Therefore, the guiding questions of this research are: what makes the plays in the corpus of analysis a tragedy? What is it about their form and content that characterizes them as tragedies? Finally: what is innovative about Plínio Marcos' tragedies? In the course of the discussions, the formal aspects mentioned include the presence of a chorus, the existence of the tragic effect, the destruction of the antihero/protagonist, an irreparable action, and an emphasis on evil. In terms of content, the plays explore the experience of those who live on the margins, unprotected by the democratic rule of law. Their lives are exposed to the limits of degradation, culminating in death — physical or metaphorical — as the protagonist transforms. This metamorphosis occurs due to the loss of perspective on life or the impossibility of having a dignified existence, free from violence and exploitation by institutions that perpetuate the infrastructures of power and capitalism. Considering the analyses made, it was concluded that tragedy is a disputed concept, which decisively influences the selection and definition of experiences considered worthy of a tragedy. For Bradley (2009), for example, it is not possible for a work to be a tragedy if it does not deal with the life of a human being of “high lineage.” In contrast, Williams (2002) questions the reasons that define the death of a king as a tragedy, while that of an ordinary man is a mere incident. In this scenario, he refers to Plínio Marcos' plays as tragedies of homo sacer. To this end, authors such as Aristotle (2008), Albin Lesky (2015), Andrew Bradley (2009), Raymond Williams (2002), Giorgio Agamben (2006, 2007), among others, were fundamental in composing the theoretical and analytical repertoire of this research work.

This study investigates the literary reading of works produced in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) by deaf Brazilian artists. The study sought to contextualize the national scenario of deaf literary production, considering the artistic, linguistic, and social aspects that permeate it. The analysis of the works allowed us to observe that literary reception by deaf people has its own characteristics, revealing an aesthetic of reading marked by corporeality and sensory experience. We thus reflect on the materiality of the works in relation to the reader and, conversely, on the materiality of the reader in relation to the text. This leads us to understand that deaf readers access literary texts in their own way, interpreting them based on their sensory, cultural, and historical experiences. The way of producing art and reading, as well as the way of living and interacting with the world, is specific to the deaf experience; therefore, we affirm that deaf people inscribe themselves in social and artistic spaces through a deafography, that is, a writing of the deaf body in the space of language. The research was applied in a literary reading project developed at the Professor Isoldi Storck Municipal Special Education Center, with the participation of deaf youth and adults. The group read selected literary works chosen based on the members' expectations, as Bordini and Aguiar's receptive method was adopted for approaching the texts. In this sense, we defend the importance of reading deaf literature, especially by deaf people, as well as the adoption of literary reading teaching methodologies that recognize and value the potential of the deaf body and its visual-motor communication, made effective by sign language. As the literary text is updated in the deaf body and receives a mediation sensitive to the visuality and gestures of Libras, an aesthetic effect is enhanced that is capable of activating the sensory and cultural repertoire of the deaf reader. This process broadens their horizon of expectations and gradually favors access to deeper layers of meaning, even among those with limited reading experience. To support these reflections, we draw on the contributions of Quadros and Sutton-Spence (2021) with regard to Libras and deaf literature; Bordini and Aguiar (1993), Pinto (2023), and Candido (2004, 2012) in the field of literary reading; Iser (1996, 1999) and Jauss (1979, 1994) in the field of reception aesthetics; Peirce (2003), Santaella (2018, 2019), and Eco (2004) in the field of semiotics; and Zumthor (2018) to discuss the body and performance in literary art. After applying the method in the reading workshop, we were able to infer the participation of the deaf body in the process of artistic semiosis, since, in the act of reading, not only were the eyes active, but the whole body was also involved in the reading. Proof of this were the moments when, faced with doubts about what was being expressed by the body in performance on the video screen, the reader incorporated the movements into their flesh, updating the text in their own way and amplifying its sign potential. Thus, by personalizing the performer's gestures and signs, the text came to life and provided an aesthetic experience.

By articulating the voices that emerge from narratives interwoven with threads of memory, set in the Pantanal plains and in the metropolises of the United States, Tereza Albues draws from everyday life to highlight the human concerns and searches for a place and social standing, revealing the underside of humanity, its cruelties, ambitions, power, exploitation, and mistreatment. In this sense, we seek to demonstrate how Albues constructs, through fiction, narratives of resistance to patriarchal and capitalist social structures. In addition to social issues, we chose exile in its voluntary form, marking a writing with displacements reflected in the characters' wanderings. To locate Albues' writing, we conducted a broad examination of female-authored literature, focusing on the first writings by women in Mato Grosso, situating the writer Albues. To this end, the novels published by the writer are analyzed: Pedra Canga (2019), Chapada da Palma Roxa (2019), A Travessia dos Sempre Vivos (2019), O Berro do Lambem Nova York (2019), and A Dança do Jaguar (2019), under the theoretical framework of studies by Beauvoir (2016), Josef (1989), Hall (2011), Bauman (2005), Bhabha (1998), Schmidt (1995), Fantini (2003), Pang (1979), Said (2003), Teixeria (1979), among others. This thesis aims to demonstrate that the novels of Mato Grosso-born writer Tereza Albues, by highlighting characters who, seduced or deceived, in search of survival and freedom, reflect disturbing social issues of serious social relevance.

This thesis focuses on the literary magazine A Violeta, founded in 1916 in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, and published until 1950. It was the Brazilian magazine produced by women with the longest circulation in the 20th century (1900–1949), constituting a milestone in women;s writing in the state of Mato Grosso. Directed and edited by former students of Colégio Liceu Cuiabano, it emerged as a publication of the Grêmio Literário “Júlia Lopes de Almeida” (Júlia Lopes de Almeida Literary Guild), which honored the renowned writer Júlia Lopes and later had her as a regular contributor to the magazine. The periodical, edited by women, is ideologically situated within the first phase of feminism, in which, through tactical feminism (Soihet, 2000), it was possible to find ways within a patriarchal system to seek a space in public life without engaging in confrontation. As a strategy, the publishers invested in the creation of a network of sociability among educated women and magazines in circulation in the country, with the aim of expanding their reach, promoting emancipatory debates among readers, and ensuring the periodicity of publications through the projection of other magazines. The development of river routes along the Paraguay and Paraná rivers, coupled with the introduction of commercial flights in 1930, allowed Mato Grosso to overcome logistical barriers, favoring the circulation of ideas. In this context, the contributors to A Violeta began to incorporate clippings from other periodicals, publicizing feminist conferences, chronicles, and poems by national and regional writers, as well as news about women's achievements in Brazil and abroad. From this perspective, this thesis aims to analyze the network of sociability as an editorial strategy, in addition to examining the chronicles of Maria Dimpina Lobo Duarte, a genre present throughout the magazine's 34 years, which functions as a space for dialogue with readers. In these chronicles, the author establishes a tone of conversation “among friends” by calling them “my readers,” but uses this proximity to propose reflections and projects. To understand the historical, social, and literary context of Mato Grosso in the 20th century, we refer to the works of Castrillon-Mendes (2020), Magalhães (2001), Mendonça (2015), Nadaf (1993), and Siqueira (2009). In the relationships established in the press produced by women, we will address the studies by Duarte (2018), Buitoni (2009), Martins and Luca (2012), and Muzart (2003), and regarding the network of sociability, we will rely on the discussions by Sirinelli (2003) and Pizarro (2004). In this vein, the thesis aims to present A Violeta as a magazine that made a significant contribution to the history of the press and literature produced by women in Brazil, but beyond that, it is also representative of a web of collaboration among women in the press that will be reflected in its perpetuation and editorial strategy.

This thesis aims to understand how the narrator organizes the gaze on bodies, remnants, andcatastrophe in the works that comprise Ana Paula Maia’s Trilogy of the End: Enterre seus
mortos (2018), De cada quinhentos uma alma (2021), and Búfalos Selvagens (2024). The
investigation sustains the hypothesis that the narrator is configured as the very voice of a
collapsing world, acting as a disenchanted witness of necropolitics and cynicism that structure
contemporary experience. The methodological articulation of the work seeks to expose regimes
of visibility and modes of narrating the catastrophe, engaging with philosophy and cultural
criticism. The analytical trajectory is organized into three complementary movements. The first
chapter establishes the conceptual foundations of the analysis, addressing animality and the
abject to highlight bare life (vida nua), a central category in the work of Giorgio Agamben
(2002). Maia’s literature insists on zones of indiscernibility between human and animal, a
perspective that is expanded based on the reflections of Maria Esther Maciel (2016) on the
bestiary and Jacques Derrida (2002). Subsequently, the second chapter turns to the formal
dimension of the narrative, showing how the narrator operates with a fragmented logic and
relies on the remnant (resto) as a way of narrating the collapse. The analysis demonstrates the
narrator’s approach to cinematic imagery, and discusses the impossibility of totality and the
narrative in remnants, ideas that align with the contributions of Silviano Santiago (2002) and
Theodor W. Adorno (2003). The third chapter deepens the discussion by articulating
necropolitics (the management of death) with the disenchanted gaze (cynicism). The narrator,
by recording events with objectivity and coldness, reflects modern cynicism, as described by
Peter Sloterdijk (2012), and the ethical failure of the present, a theme addressed by Vladimir
Safatle (2008). It is concluded that the narrator, by recording the ethical and social collapse,
becomes the very materialization of an era marked by necropolitics and cynicism, transforming
the act of narrating into a record of devastation.

The aim of this research is to investigate how the characters and historical events arerepresented in the so-called “returnee novels”, works that often bring to light the exodus of
populations that returned to Portugal on the occasion of the Portuguese decolonization of
Africa and the respective independence of the former colonies of Portuguese-speaking
African countries. Having as corpus three works of these literatures, The returned: a love
never forgets (2010), by Júlio Magalhães; The Return (2013), by Dulce Maria Cardoso and
The fat (2018), by Isabela Figueiredo, also aim to examine the memory of the characters in
the aforementioned novels, in a special way of the protagonists Joana, Rui and Maria Luísa
and, through the figurations that came to fruition in the fictional web of the works, present
evidence of restless forbidden traces about the colonial period, as well as understanding
how which forms the collective experiences of those who returned to Portugal are
(re)experienced by the individual memories of the characters. It is planned to find an
auspicious setting here to learn a little more about the dramas and misadventures of the
“returnees”. Furthermore, when seeking to understand literary representation and the
historical framework surrounding this literature, we will reflect on Portuguese colonization
in general and, in a specific way, on the Portuguese presence in Angola and Mozambique,
delving into , in turn, in studies on the Portuguese Colonial Empire. Finally, in plots where
characters and facts migrate to the territory of fiction, we will analyze, through critical
analyzes and epistemological developments, the border between two distinct, yet
contiguous, discourses present in the narratives: on the one hand, the reports about a lost
exotic paradise, on the other, the great changes that the “returnees” underwent regarding
integration in the new metropolis. However, the path and critical practice that we propose
to develop here are also contrapuntal, in the sense that when we reflect on this nostalgic
reading of the loss of an “exotic land”, we will also discuss the extent to which this land
was the object of social violence and politics for the Portuguese imperialist project.

This research analyzes the poetic works of Aclyse Mattos, published up to the year 2024, namely: Assalto a mão amada: e outras histórias cantadas (1985); Papel Picado (1987); Quem muito olha a lua fica louco (2000); Festa (2012); Com por: poesias (2020). Distinct yet complementary phases in Mattos’ writing are identified, ranging from poetic experimentation influenced by avant-garde movements—particularly Intensivism, Concrete Poetry, and the Poema-Processo—to a more intimate phase that connects his work to the essence of cuiabania, projecting a sense of belonging onto Mato Grosso and its capital, Cuiabá. Subsequently, a phase emerges marked by the confluence of dialogues between tradition and modernity, ensuring the author's poetic maturity. To support the analyses, literary theory on lyric poetry and critical studies on literature produced in Mato Grosso are utilized. Scholars such as Alfredo Bosi (2015), Philadelpho Menezes (2001), Octavio Paz (2012), Isaac Ramos (2011), Haroldo de Campos (1987), among others, provide the basis for the analysis of poems, which exhibit post-avant-garde traits, including verbivocovisual elements. To structure the investigation of the author’s second phase of production and contextualize the literary scene of Mato Grosso, critics such as Olga Castrillon-Mendes (2020), Eduardo Mahon (2021), Mário Cezar Silva Leite (2005), and Cristina Campos (2014) are referenced. Additionally, researchers from related fields of literary studies, such as Heidegger (2006), Byung-Chul Han (2022), and Silva & Silva (1995), contributed to shaping this thesis.
