RESUMO:

This research was conducted in the village of Vila Nova Barbecho, in the Chiquitano Indigenous Territory, located in the municipality of Porto Esperidião - state of Mato Grosso, on the Brazil/Bolivia border, from 2025 to 2026. This work sought to contribute to the development of traditional knowledge practices through the making of Chiquitano braids with indaiá and acurí sprouts at the José Turíbio Indigenous State School. The main objective is to strengthen pedagogical practices in the way of teaching the traditional knowledge of Chiquitano braids, aiming at the preservation and appreciation in the pedagogical process in Chiquitano Indigenous School Education in the Vila Nova Barbecho Village, and specifically: 1) to highlight the cultural, historical and educational importance of Chiquitano braids for new generations, developing pedagogical strategies that contribute to the teaching and learning of traditional braids in the Chiquitano school context; 2) to demonstrate the teaching and learning of students in the practice of braiding; 3) To produce a cultural activity booklet and a catalog containing handicrafts made from the shoots of the indaiá and acuri palm trees. The methodology adopted was a qualitative ethnographic approach, using participant observation. Interviews with semi-structured questions were conducted, recorded and subsequently transcribed; workshops were held with students for the creation of handicrafts and drawings about the acuri and indaiá palm trees; photographic records were taken. Two elders and a teacher, all experts in the practice of weaving, participated in the interviews. For theoretical grounding, internet searches and bibliographic reviews related to the topic were conducted in books, the school's Pedagogical Project, theses, dissertations, course completion papers, scientific articles, indigenous productions, etc. Research was also conducted on the Chiquitano people, on weaving with indaiá and acuri sprouts, and publications by Chiquitano indigenous researchers and non-indigenous researchers were found, totaling 16 publications, two of which are directly related to the specific topic. This research aims to answer the following question: How can traditional Chiquitano weaving with indaiá and acuri sprouts contribute to the educational process at the José Turíbio Indigenous State School?, as well as provide discussions on the themes of interculturality and teaching, in specific and differentiated education, through the production of pedagogical material that can be consulted and used in the school and in academia.
