OF REVOLUTED LANDS TO THE SEA OF SUNFLOWERS: THE SUNFLOWER VOCABULARY IN CAMPO NOVO DO PARECIS – MATO GROSSO

The present research presents partial results of the research in progress, whose proposal is to study the lexicon of the sunflower in Campo Novo do Parecis. For this, the vocabulary of the semantic field 'sunflower' used by the participants involved in this crop's production, extractivism, and commercialization was defined as the investigated object. As hypotheses, it is verified whether the historical and sociocultural aspects interfere in the Portuguese lexicon used by the people living in the city of Campo Novo do Parecis-MT, specifically, in the semantic-lexical field of sunflower; for being an activity of great historical and economic importance for the region, it is expected to find the reflection of the sunflower culture in historical and sociocultural contexts of Campo Novo do Parecis-MT; lexical units not yet included in the dictionary can be found in the lexicon of people involved in the cultivation, extraction, and commercialization of sunflowers in Campo Novo do Parecis, the participants of this study. Lexicology, Lexicography, and Sociolinguistics are adopted as the theoretical-methodological framework in the study in terms of procedures, literature, and fieldwork; regarding its approach, the qualitative one (which includes the ethnographic approach), its objectives, and the exploratory one. The sample consists of 12 informants distributed in groups of women and men and three age groups involved in the sunflower crop.
