RESUMO:

This paper presents a study on literary literacy, with a focus on teaching Afro-Brazilian literature in elementary education, using the short stories from Conceição Evaristo's "Olhos D’água" as a foundation for contextualizing the theme of Black acceptance in society. Our research aims to demonstrate the functioning of literary literacy within the context of Afro-Brazilian literature. We employed methodologies such as Jauss's (1967) Aesthetic of Reception, Solé's (1998) Reading Strategies, Thiolent's (1986) action research, and Rildo Cosson's (2021) Basic Sequence. The analysis of results follows Bardin's (2002) principles of Content Analysis. In doing so, we present the experiences observed in the classroom and the students' learning outcomes. Our goal is to promote increased dialogue, the exchange of thoughts, information, and experiences between teachers and students in the final years of elementary education. We strive for a deeper integration of literary reading with a curriculum focused on Afro-Brazilian literature, achieved through the reading of texts addressing issues related to race, gender, color, prejudice, and social inequality. This approach aims to encourage critical thinking among students. Afro-Brazilian literature plays a pivotal role in acknowledging the uniqueness of this literary production, giving voice to Afro-descendants, and addressing profound social issues. This contribution significantly enhances our understanding of Brazilian literature and aids in building a more inclusive and just society. The development of literary readers not only nurtures a love for reading within the classroom but also provides avenues for personal expression and self-affirmation beyond it. Simultaneously, reading becomes a vital space for reflection, inquiry, and the strengthening of Brazilian identities.
