RESUMO:

The National School Feeding Program (PNAE) and family farming play crucial roles in promoting food security, adequate nutrition, economic development and social inclusion. Started as the School Lunch Campaign in 1955, the PNAE aims to provide healthy food to public basic education students. This study aims to respond to the problem regarding the potential and limitations for supplying school meals through the acquisition of food in the PNAE from family farming in Nova Olímpia - MT. The research adopts a qualitative approach to understand and interpret social characteristics from a subjective perspective. Data collection will be carried out through field interviews with farmers from Nova Olímpia-MT participating in the PNAE. The study aims to analyze farmers' adherence to the program and subsidize managers to promote the commercialization of horticultural products in the municipality. It is expected to obtain an in-depth understanding of the horticultural capacity of farmers from Nova Olímpia-MT participating in the PNAE. The results will provide support for proposing indicators that promote the commercialization of family farming products, contributing to local economic development, in addition to guiding public policies, promoting the economic sustainability of local farmers and ensuring adequate and healthy school meals.
