RESUMO:

This is an investigation into "Teachers' perceptions of the presence of indigenous Cinta Larga students in an urban school in Juína-MT. "The aim of this study is to talk to teachers in order to understand how they think about and carry out the process of welcoming and keeping Cinta Larga students in the school where they work. The methodology used in this research is based on a qualitative approach, in which the collection, analysis and systematization of data is based on ethnographic studies. As a strategy for data collection, a prior conversation was held with the teachers in which they were all informed about the topic and objective of the research. Afterwards, each teacher received a script of questions that could be answered in writing or orally. The teachers who took part in this study were teachers who teach 8th grade at the Tiradentes Military School in Juína, MT.    The results obtained, according to the answers given by the teachers, show that neither the school nor the teachers were prepared to receive indigenous students. Thus, in addition to the explicit statements about the lack of training, it was also possible to observe that the teachers' statements show signs of inequality, prejudice, discrimination and a lack of planning to meet the needs of indigenous students in terms of access and permanence. The teachers also mention that the limitations in terms of training to include indigenous students extend to other school spaces. Based on these statements, it is possible to conclude that it is urgent and necessary to reorganize the school as a whole, in order to bring in elements of an inclusive intercultural perspective, with support strategies so that the presence of these students is re-signified by the entire school community.
