RESUMO:

The main scope of this research is to analyze the changes in the landscape caused by the limestone mining activity in the municipality of Rosário Oeste - Mato Grosso. The study sought to characterize the process of limestone mining activity in the area, identify the geomorphological changes in the landscape caused by anthropogenic activity in the mining companies, carry out the geomorphological cartography applied to the analysis of the relief in the places affected by mining and produce a booklet containing information obtained in the research and that will be indicated as complementary didactic material in schools in the city and region. Like other Brazilian states, Mato Grosso is advancing in limestone mining, in view of the large number of rural properties in the state that end up using this input to correct the soil acidity of the cerrado predominant in this region and increase crop productivity. In the municipality of Rosário Oeste- Mato Grosso, the four mining companies in their territory mainly produce limestone for liming in agriculture. Despite the increase in the supply of jobs and consequently the improvement in the way of life of the population, the municipality also faces the removal of part of its vegetation and alteration in the landscape. Due to the removal of the capping of the soil, drilling of the benches, blasting by explosives, loading and transportation of the material from the quarry to the processing plant and other stages of limestone processing, it is possible to observe the change in the physiognomy of the landscape, giving it a new configuration. To contemplate the proposed objectives, this research was developed in three stages. In the first stage, bibliographic research was carried out to collect information from official agencies and data related to limestone mining. In the second stage, the study area was recognized through previously scheduled visits to the mining companies, characterization of the stages of limestone processing, photographic surveys to observe changes in the landscape and verification of possible changes in land use and cover in the área of and around mining enterprises. In the third stage, thematic maps of the region and geotechnology resources were used, analyzing orbital images obtained through Planet RGB satellites and then processed through Qgis, contributing to the realization of a cartographic mapping of the mining companies. All these data support the analysis of the processes derived by environmental transformation and contribute to attest to anthropogenic changes, giving an estimate of the magnitude of the changes caused in the local relief. In addition to being an important starting point to foster interest in research in this area, the information obtained brings reflections related to the use and scarcity of natural resources, proposing the adoption of techniques that reduce negative impacts on the environment.
