RESUMO:

Water is the source of life for all living beings. Water is a necessary element for our survival, if not the most important one. Without it, we would never exist. This assertive statement is part of common sense, yet there is always a need for ongoing knowledge production on this topic. The present dissertation aimed to study the "Development of an educational booklet for elementary school students in the urban region of Santarém-PA, focusing on the issue of water usage in the city." It arises from the need to deepen the critical understanding of environmental problems related to water resources, mainly due to the necessity of creating tools to sensitize the public about the addressed topic, such as rational water usage.

To achieve this, materials were gathered through bibliographic research from sources like magazines, journals, newspapers, books, field visits, and interviews, providing the basis for the research plan's development. These data came from agencies, organizations, and entities such as the State of Pará's Agriculture Department; State Department of Sustainable Economic Development (SDS); Environmental Resources Information Center (EPAGRI-CIRAM); Center for Teaching and Applied Research (CEPA); Civil Defense (DEC); Ministry of the Environment (MMA); National Water Agency (ANA); Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE); State Council for Water Resources (CERH); Northern Region Water Resources Information System (SNIRHRN); Water and Sewage Company (CASANPA); and Municipal Department of Education (SEMED). This broad literature review, particularly within the state's political environment, was essential to achieve the stated main objective: creating an educational booklet.

Based on the obtained results and following visits to municipal elementary schools like the Parque School and the Escola da Floresta with students, the proposed materials were developed. The central concern of this study was to contribute to the formation of conscious citizens, aiming to reinforce the idea of each individual's responsibility in making this planet a place where people can live with dignity. Given Pará's significant cultural and natural riches, mineral diversity, and extensive water network, achieving such daily actions requires adopting habits aligned with environmental education. Additionally, environmental education topics were presented to teachers and students in Santarém's municipal public school system through a continuous and participatory process. This process encouraged socio-environmental behavior change through playful activities, allowing each teacher to tailor content within their specific area to encompass the Environmental-Water Resources theme, as well as other interdisciplinary topics.
