The intense growth of the city of Nova Mutum, located in the region of expansion of the agricultural frontier, points

to the need to care for water resources, especially the Bujuizinho creek that crosses the central urban area. In this

context, it is speculated that the stream may be suffering negative anthropic interference in relation to direct

contamination of the water and permanent preservation areas. Faced with this hypothesis, we ask what is the

impact that urbanization has been causing on the quality of the waters and on the APPs of the Bujuizinho creek

watershed? Based on this problem, the objective was to analyze the use and occupation of the soil, the Water

Quality and Trophic State Index and the presence of pesticides in the watershed of the Bujuizinho stream in the

urban area of Nova Mutum/MT – Brazil. This work was based on bibliographic research, cartographic survey and

remote sensing from satellite images of the last 35 years, to determine its urbanization dynamics. Subsequently,

the springs were identified using the QGIS software, which were confirmed, with the help of data available in the

database of the SICAR website, and, afterwards, the Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) were delimited, in the

around the water body, in order to assess whether urbanization is invading these areas. For this, eight points

were demarcated for the monthly collection of water samples, during a period of twelve months, starting in

September 2021, whose samples were analyzed for the determination of four variables that make up the Water

Quality Index ( WQI), Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, pH and Turbidity. Two analyzes were also carried out, one

in the rainy season and the other in the dry season, to analyze the Water Quality Index (WQI) and the Trophic

State Index (TSI). At one of the eight collection points, analyzes of the fifty-four Organic Variables of CONAMA

resolution 357 of March 17, 2005 were carried out. In order to achieve the research objectives, the data obtained

were analyzed using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and multiple comparison tests, defined after

checking the normality of the data. The hydrographic basin showed a reduction in APPs and the collection points

located closest to these areas showed negative changes in relation to eutrophication and water quality. At the

end of this research, a book was produced showing the evolution of the urbanization process of the city of Nova

Mutum - MT and the current water quality of the Bujuizinho creek.
