Keyword: Rainwater; Water supply; cisterns
The municipality of Várzea Grande in the state of Mato Grosso has a chronic water supply problem that affects many neighborhoods. The capture, storage and reuse of rainwater emerges as an alternative to face the problems related to the lack of drinking water supply. The objective of this work is to generate a technical report on the feasibility of using rainwater as a complementary source of water supply for the Vila Operária neighborhood in the municipality of Várzea Grande - MT. To fulfill the objective, physical-chemical and microbiological analyzes of rainwater in the municipality were carried out, the monthly rainfall index of the last ten years was collected and finally a budgetary study was carried out for the installation of cisterns in the residences. The results of the physical-chemical analysis of the water were observed that the results were in accordance with what is required by Ordinance GM/MS Nº 888 of the Ministry of Health. However, the microbiological analysis was positive for the presence of total coliforms and Escherichia Colli. It was found that the rainfall index, between the months of October to May allow the use of rainwater as a complement to the water supply. This project identified that the public power of the municipality of Várzea Grande can adopt financial incentive actions, with reference to the municipal law (Law No. 4.286/2017), so that residents can build their own rainwater collection and storage system.
