RESUMO:

Despite having a significant part of the world's freshwater reserves, Brazil presents areas of conflict in terms of use, where the availability of water resources is compromised either by quantity or quality, sometimes by both. In this sense, the Upper Rio Cuiabá Hydrographic Basin, bounded by the Planning and Management Unit P4 (UPG-P4), located in the Hydrographic Region (RH) of the Paraguay River, presents itself as a point of high interest for water quality control , as it encompasses the most populous and densest region of RH in the Paraguay River and is located upstream of one of the largest extensions of wetlands in the world: the Pantanal. In this way, this work seeks to research and develop tools and methodologies that can enable the integrated management of water resources and aims to establish the necessary subsidies to control water pollution in the various uses of the UPG-P4. This objective will take into account the urban, rural and environmental aspects of the hydrographic basin, and will fulfill the stages of (i) quali-quantitative characterization of the main water bodies in the study area; (ii) characterization and quantification of pollution sources; and (iii) simulation, through the HEC-RAS mathematical model, of the water quality of the Cuiabá River for different pollution scenarios. As products, we seek (i) a tool (mathematical model) capable of supporting decision making, focused mainly on mitigating the impacts caused by the inflow of polluting loads to the UPG-P4 rivers; (ii) a plan of guidelines with main actions to be taken to mitigate the impacts of pollution in the basin; and (iii) a replicable technical-scientific basis methodology to guide decision making in the scope of water resources management
