RESUMO:

The history of humanity is directly linked to the tradition of narratives and their characters, whether oral or written, constitute the collective unconscious and exert an influence on culture and the way of understanding the world. As for the heroes, the central characters of the plots, there is a notorious search for an understanding of who this individual is, which is connected to the dilemmas and anxieties of the human psyche. This research objective is to analyze the character Lunga, from the film Bacurau (2019) directed by Kleber Mendonça and Juliano Dornelles. The central context of the film is the struggle of the population of a town in the northeastern interior to deal with problems such as social injustice, political abandonment, corruption and violence. In order to survive, the residents turn to Lunga for help. A literary review was carried out with various authors to shed light on the work itself, Bacurau (2019), specifically Lunga's behavior along with the movements of identification as hero and anti-hero and their variations. Some of the authors studied and used for this research are: Bosi (1992), Campbell (2000/2007), Jung (2000/2014), Vogler (2007), Faria (2012), D'Onofrio (2004), Alves and Precioso (2012), Oliveira (2007), Propp (2001), Lyotard (2009), Bonicci (1999). The other materials were found in databases such as Scielo - Scientific Electronic Library Online. This study concluded that Lunga, like other characters in the story, goes through his journey in order to experience the stages of the hero archetype. Lunga represents strength and resistance in the face of a hostile world that promotes colonising processes that believe they are dominant over other existences
