RESUMO:

The presence of Mato Grosso’s regionalism in most of Tereza Albues’ works reveals the writer's commitment to rescuing traditions, culture, habits, customs and sayings of the people of this region although this does not seem to be the main focus of the narratives, since the plots are very well constructed in the midst of intriguing characters and engaging stories, tangled with mysteries, with serious and socially relevant denunciations. Thus, the purpose of this research is to analyze the configurations of the fantastic, memory and identity in the works Pedra Canga (1987) and A dança do jaguar (2000), aiming to apprehend the forms of representation of the novelistic genre from the two realities, Mato Grosso and Sanfranciscana, thus highlighting the notably mystical and fantastic space in their narratives. For the elaboration of the historical course of the literary productions produced in the state of Mato Grosso, which consists of an explanation about the contextualization of the historical process of formation of the literature produced in Mato Grosso to assist in the understanding and critical analysis of the narrative of Albues the theoretical framework focused on the studies of Mendonça (2015), Magalhães (2001 and 2002), Nadaf (2004), Castrillon-Mendes (2020), Mahon (2021), Walker (2021). Pedra Canga and A dança do jaguar are, respectively, the first and last novels published by Albues. In the first one, the story takes place in Pedra Canga, a small village located in the interior of Mato Grosso, Brazil and in the last one San Francisco, in the United States, however, despite the geographical distance, the plots have some points in common. The spaces of these narratives are notoriously relevant, as both are based on two houses: in Pedra Canga, in the Vergare house, located in Chácara Mangueiral, and, in A dança do jaguar, in the Vitoriana house, owned by the Maltesa. To discuss, taking the narrative point by point, we adopted a stance that prioritized the analytical approach of inseparable intratextual aspects, that is, without the concatenation by the structuring element, but simultaneously, intertwining the categories, based on theorists such as Bakhtin (1993), Genette (1995), Lins (1976), Dimas (1994), Bachelard (2000), Borges Filho (2007). For the other categories, narrator and characters, Friedman (2002), Leite, (2004) and Foster (2005). Tereza Albues' narratives show aspects inherent to the fantastic, a recurring feature in her works. Thus, the theoretical support used in this research, in order to clarify this definition, covers the studies carried out by Todorov (1975), Rodrigues (1988), Furtado (1980) and Roas (2014); and, in relation to memory studies that, consequently, embark on the re(de)construction of identity, the foundation is based on Halbwachs (1990), Le Goff (2003), Hall (2006), Ricoeur (2007), Assmann (2011). As for identity issues, it is evident that we are beings in constant mutation and always in the process of (de)(re)construction of our identity. Among the various aspects that can contribute to changes in our individuality, memory is the one that most influences this process. Since returning to the past, remembering, reliving moments, is something that makes you think, reflect, ponder and often resize and redirect life.
