THE E-ZINE GENRE AND MULTIMODALITY:
an experience for the development of textual production of
8th grade students in Elementary School
Educational Sociolinguistics. Linguistic variation and variety. Didactic sequence. Orality and writing. E-zine.
This study proposes research aimed at enhancing students' oral and written skills using an innovative and engaging approach. The emphasis of this is on valuing students' linguistic varieties, respecting their cultures and identities, while also presenting other varieties, including standard language. To achieve this goal, the implementation of the multimodal genre e-zine (electronic fanzine) is proposed in an action research project, according to Thiollent (1986). The project is anchored in Educational Sociolinguistics theories (Bortoni-Ricardo, 2005, 2017) and emphasizes meaningful learning, providing students with contextualized and engaging oral, reading, and writing experiences. Action research will be conducted with 8th grade students from a public school in Sorriso, Mato Grosso. The e-zine genre was chosen because of its presence in the Brazilian National Common Core Curriculum - BNCC (2018) and for being a way to engage students with multimodal texts, stimulating creativity and reflection on linguistic variations. The Didactic Sequence (Dolz, Noverraz, and Schneuwly, 2004) will be adopted for the knowledge and construction of e-zines. The research objectives include encouraging the reduction of linguistic prejudice in school, contributing to learning about linguistic variations and varieties, and improving students' performance in Portuguese language, especially in oral and written skills. It is expected that the proposed approach will make learning more meaningful and inclusive, allowing students to be protagonists of their own learning.
