RESUMO:

This dissertation is in the line of research Literature, History and Cultural Memory, which presents an analysis of the representation of the female figure within the myths of origin. We take as literary corpus the Book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, a Judeo-Christian narration, and the Popol Vuh, an important Maya-Quiche book. We will address the two mythical narratives that carry different worldviews and promote different meanings of female representation based on the way in which the creation of women is narrated in each of the myths. Therefore, the objective is to analyze the figures of Eve, in the biblical narrative, and the figures of Ixmucané and Ixquic in the Mayan-Quiche narrative. To do this, we will trace a journey through the female representations of Western culture that contribute to the archetype associated with the figure of Eve and permeate the discourses on the female figure to this day. Analyzing this narrative, from which the social relations of Western society were based, considering that the myth corroborated the erasure and silencing of the female figure. To carry out this study, the bibliographic and analytical research methodology was adopted. It has a theoretical and critical framework that supports analysis of mythical works such as Campbell (1997), Eliade (1963 and 1972), Lévi-Strauss (1973), Brunel (2000). To support ourselves theoretically in the discussion about the archetype and the representation of the feminine in myths, we take as a theoretical basis critics such as Marina Warner (1999), Jeanne-Marie Gagnebin (1997), Martha Robles (2006), Abraham (1994) , and Jung (2000) to approach the concept of archetype with base, as well as Carvalho (2013) and Bastos (2011) very important for the understanding of the Mayan-Quiche myth that is presented in a non-linear way and without a chronological order in comparison. with European myths, among others that were very important for the development of this dissertation and the discussion about the representations of female figures and the archetypes generated from them.
