RESUMO:

The Green Revolution in Brazil provided a favorable environment for the adaptation of new technologies, including chemical inputs, laboratory seeds, irrigation and mechanization. Brazil is among the largest pesticide consumer markets in the world, with 7.3 L/inhabitant and, in Mato Grosso, the amount exceeds 45 L/inhabitant. The data becomes worrying, especially when we include family farming in these numbers. The problems extend to the incorrect use of pesticides, a major challenge in agriculture in general due to several factors, but mainly for family farming, generally lacking technical assistance. Faced with the lack of health control in relation to the use of pesticides, it is necessary to find strategies to minimize the risks to human and environmental health. The research was carried out on 30 agricultural properties in the municipality of Tangará da Serra/MT, between March and September 2023, an interview guide was prepared with 54 questions, open and closed, which were carried out on site. The work was divided into two chapters: Pesticides and the impacts on the occupational health of small producers and Environmental impacts and food safety due to the indiscriminate use of pesticides by small producers. Based on the above, the present work has the general objective of investigating whether knowledge and practices regarding the use of pesticides by small producers in Tangará da Serra interfere with the potential risk of contamination of producers, consumers and the environment, considering the reduction of the risks to which these workers are exposed.
