RESUMO:

Mato Grosso is the largest soybean producer in Brazil and consequently, the state with the highest use of phytosanitary products, due to several biotic factors affecting crop yield, such as insect pests. This has prompted concern about the environmental risks of large-scale pesticide use, leading to the development of tools to estimate the impact caused by their excessive use in agroecosystems, such as the Environmental Risk Index (ERI). In addition, an increase in biological management in the country's crops has been observed in recent years, with the use of entomopathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, and viruses). However, data on the compatibility of the association of entomopathogenic bacteria and pesticides are scarce. Thus, the present study was aimed at: estimating the ERI of the main insecticides used in the control of stink bugs in soybean crops in Mato Grosso and evaluating the compatibility of the association of entomopathogenic bacteria and phytosanitary products in vitro and in pesticide mixtures used in this crop. Data on the most widely used active ingredients (a.is.) for stink bug control in soybean for 2022 were obtained from the Agricultural Defense Institute of Mato Grosso (INDEA-MT). The physicochemical characteristics of active ingredients were obtained from the Pesticide Properties Database (PPDB) of the University of Hertfordshire and the Pesticide Properties Database (PPD) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USA). The parameters used to calculate ERI were: persistence, leaching, volatilization, toxicological profile, and dosage. In the in vitro compatibility test, 24 phytosanitary products combined with Pseudomonas fluorescens + Pseudomonas chlororaphis were evaluated, while in the pesticide mixture test, seven combinations were examined, based on their use by farmers in the region. According to the results obtained in 2022, 11,612,956.00 kg of a.is. were used for stink bug control in soybean, with acephate accounting for ≅33.18% of this volume (3,853,687.00 kg). Regarding ERI, the highest index was observed for the neonicotinoid imidacloprid (ERI=12), while the lowest value was found for the organophosphate acephate (ERI=5) and sulfoximine sulfoxaflor (ERI=5). In the in vitro bioassays, only Beauveria bassiana and indoxacarb were compatible with P. fluorescens+P. chlororaphis. All mixtures of active ingredients were incompatible, inhibiting bacterial growth. Based on these results, ERI estimates may provide a framework for the selection of a.is. with low toxicity, in order to minimize the negative impacts from incorrect pesticide use. Also, the results of bioassays revealed that the recommendation of the association of P. fluorescens + P. chlororaphis and herbicides/fungicides/adjuvants is not safe, as these were highly toxic to microorganisms.
