The objective of this work was to analyze the impacts of the occurrence of natural and artificial induction on the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of three pineapple cultivars and to verify the behavior of eight cultivars against cold, in order to identify a cultivar tolerant to flowering induction tolerance. Natural.
In experiment 1, the design used was a randomized block design, in a 3x2 factorial scheme (cultivars x flowering induction), with five replications and 20 plants per plot. The evaluated cultivars were Pérola, Jupi and Gigante de Tarauacá. Two forms of flowering induction were evaluated, being the natural induction, where the plants were allowed to induce naturally, and the artificial, where the induction was forced with a chemical product. For experiment 2, the design was also randomized blocks, with five replications and 20 plants per plot. In this experiment, the cultivars Pérola, BRS Imperial, Jupi, BRS Vitória, Smooth Cayenne, IAC Fantástico, BRS Ajubá and Gigante de Tarauacá were evaluated. The cultivars were left to induce naturally, being evaluated weekly from May to September 2019. With the plant in the proper size, natural flowering does not reduce the size of the fruit, but promotes uneven production, making it difficult to scale production and carry out phytosanitary disease control and pests. The cultivars Smooth Cayenne, BRS Imperial and IAC Fantástico were tolerant to natural flowering induction and can be used in breeding programs as parents to select genotypes tolerant to natural flowering induction.
