RESUMO:

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has directly affected the world, altering human daily life and the environment. Its containment measures have had a direct impact on fishing families and the fishing sector. Presenting great variability and national dualities between positive and negative effects, e.g., on fish sales, the impacts of this period on continental fishing communities lack robust data. The objective was to identify the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic according to the perception of fishers and their dependents on individual, social, professional (fishing), and environmental aspects. The research was conducted using two methodologies, the first from the specific project (data source for articles 1, 2, and 4) and the second from
the general project: "Methods of data production on vulnerability and quality of life (physical-psychological, social, and environmental) in the post-COVID-19 pandemic" (data source for article 3). The first consisted of semi-structured interviews in the cities of Cáceres and Várzea Grande (Mato Grosso) and Manaus and Manicoré (Amazonas). The second was carried out using a Likert scale questionnaire, applied in schools across Brazil, with students in the final stages of high school included in the study based on self-declaration as the child of a fisher. For articles 1 and 2, the data were analyzed using an exploratory approach through transcription of the interviews and classification into mentions and reports, organized in spreadsheets in Excel® and Word®. Speech reports were made based on categories built a priori based on research interest and literature, as well as content analysis. For article 3, descriptive, inferential, and multivariate analyzes were performed using SPSS Statistics software, and graphs were prepared in R. By means of the chi-square test, correlations were evaluated between nominal, socioeconomic data and health variables (mental and vaccination) and connection with nature. Article 4 consists of the experience report of field activity in post-graduation and the resulting personal and professional transformations. The sample group for articles 1, 2, and 4 comprised 42 fishers and 50 dependents (children, grandchildren, etc.). For article 3, data from 98 students were used (49 children of fishers and 49 children of non-fishers). Fishing proved to be "Extremely" (65) and "Very" (22) important for fisher families. The COVID-19 pandemic was a negative period for 71.43% of fishers and 98% of their dependents, with deaths, negative feelings, and difficulties in fishing. When asked about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the environment, 46.74% of families reported no impact, 40.22% disagreed, indicating harmful anthropogenic actions and environmental changes, and 13.04% did not know how to respond. Connection with nature positively contributed to the health protection of fishers' children, resulting in fewer impacts on their physical health when vaccinated and also on their emotional health. The need for social support, access to information, and public policies to ensure the well-being of fishing families is emphasized.
