The present study analyzes the costs of hospitalization for cardiorespiratory diseases in the Unified Health System (SUS) resulting from exposure to PM2.5 emitted by fires and forest fires in municipalities located in the Legal Amazon region and its surroundings for the period from 2010 to 2021 Data from the SUS Hospital Information System were used and the methodology recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) was applied to calculate attributable fractions. As a result, municipalities located in the Arc of Deforestation had, on average, the highest costs with hospitalizations for cardiorespiratory diseases resulting from exposure to pollution from biomass burning in the region.
