RESUMO:

The woody component found below the trees is littleknown, as most of the work focuses on trees or notdistinguish habits, due to the particularities that some speciespresent in their architecture, as they developed in conditions thatmay allow for more than one habit (arboreal/shrub). Estimatesof biomass from this stratum, are also scarce for the same reasonsmentioned above. Therefore, this dissertation was structured into twochapters, and in chapter I, we present a phytosociological study of thewoody component below the trees at the Serra das Ecological StationAraras, Porto Estrela, Mato Grosso, in which the level of inclusion used wasdiameter ≥ 3 cm and height from 1 m to ≤ 3 m, in a total of 52 plots of10x10m in Cerrado and forest areas, in addition to discussing the definitionof the habits of the woody species recorded in this research, and hereWe emphasized the shrubs. We recorded a total of 889 specimens,belonging to 24 botanical families, 40 genera and 51 species, of which,Anacardium humile, Guettarda pohliana, Miconia albicans, Myrcia bella, Myrciaguianensis, Miconia albicans and Siparuna guianensis were consideredshrubs in this study, with the others being arboreal, or arboreal/shrub,how we classify those that were identified at the gender level. To thefamilies that contributed the greatest wealth in the Cerrado areas wereApocynaceae and Vochysiaceae with a total of 4 species each, followed byFabaceae (3), in forest areas the families with the greatest wealth wereMyrtaceae and Rubiaceae with three species each, followed by Annonaceae (2).Cordiera macrophylla was the only species that occurred both in forest areasas in the Cerrado. The species that had the highest abundance and highest valueimportance (VI) in the Cerrado areas was Myrcia bella.
