RESUMO:

The Amazon is a provider of essential ecosystem services for maintaining life and balance on the planet and for planetary health. However, changes in land use, driven by misguided development policies, have resulted in constant losses and forest degradation, which compromise the ecosystem's ability to provide its invaluable services to socio-ecological systems. In this sense, the present study aims to analyze the temporal evolution of changes in land use and coverage in the municipality of Juína, a hub in the Northwest planning region of the state of Mato Grosso (MT), located in the Southern Amazon, in order to evaluate the impacts on ecosystem services and their socio- environmental effects, including the health and quality of life of resident populations. The results are structured into four articles. The first article is a scientometric mapping of national and international scientific studies, published between the years 2000 and 2021, which address the influence of vegetation on human health, using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The second article aimed to carry out a multi-temporal analysis (1985 – 2021) of land use and coverage in the municipality of Juína – MT, in order to evaluate the impacts on ecosystem services, specifically on hydrology and soil, and their effects on climate, health and quality of life of resident populations. The third article is an exploratory ecological epidemiological study on the incidence of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and their relationship with changes in land use and cover and socio-environmental indicators. Finally, the fourth article is a study of the perception of social actors regarding changes in land use and cover, ecosystem services and their relationships with health, well-being and quality of life. Previous results demonstrated that since its occupation process, this socio-ecological system has been altered by strong economic pressures, which resulted in forest loss of 16%, while all anthropic uses showed a significant upward trend, with emphasis on pasture areas. , which occupy 14.9% of the total area of the municipality. These changes can impact extremely important ecosystem services vital for ecological, climatic and environmental stability, increasing socioeconomic inequalities and affecting health, well-being and quality of life in socio-ecological systems, especially for the most vulnerable populations.
