RESUMO:

This study aims to investigate the beliefs of border agents at a field school, located in one of the borders between Brazil and Bolivia, in relation to bilingual and multilingual practices in the school context in order to verify to what extent such beliefs can influence the teaching and learning process of these students. This study is part of the area of Applied Linguistics and is guided theoretically-methodologically by the concept of beliefs in the teaching and learning of languages (Barcelos, 2004), having as background the theory of Translanguaging, based on the discussions of Garcia and Li Wei (2014). The study is qualitative in nature and is based on a case study that involved the observation of the Portuguese teacher, the practices of students and teachers at school. The instrument of data collection, carried out by the participants of the research, including managers, teachers, students and Brazilian parents, students and Bolivian parents, as well as testimonies of community agents. The history of the municipality was also recorded to illustrate the context in which the research was conducted. The expected results aim to explain how the beliefs of school community agents about translingual practices in a multilingual context can reduce the linguistic-cultural richness of the border environment, identity of students living in this region. Therefore, it is expected to promote intervention research focused on the linguistic practices at borders, specific translingual practices, considering them as a phenomenon constituting the identities of this border people.
