RESUMO:

This thesis focuses on the actions of reclamation, maintenance, and strengthening of the Kokama language and culture in an urban context, carried out by the indigenous teacher Silvânio Brandão Kokama, while teaching at the "Espaço de Estudo da Língua Materna e Conhecimentos Tradicionais Indígenas - Kokama Karuara" (Space for the Study of the Mother Language and Indigenous Traditional Knowledge - Kokama Karuara). In this context, it began with the situational analysis of the Kokama language in an urban environment and the need to consolidate efforts aimed at revitalizing indigenous language and culture as a public educational linguistic policy. In this sense, the main objective is to present the use of ancestral Kokama origin narratives as actions to promote the resurgence, maintenance, and linguistic and cultural strengthening as a public linguistic policy in favor of the language, reaffirmation of identity, and the (re)valuation of Kokama knowledge and traditions in the city of Manaus, Amazonas. The research was conducted in the years 2020, 2021, and 2022, with a forced break during the pandemic period. The methodology considered: the principles of Post-Colonialism and the historical context of colonization in the Amazon, based on foundations from Memmi (2007), Fanon (1968; 2008), Freire (2008), Hall (1997; 2005), Bhabha (1998), Ribeiro (1979), among others; the historical context of the Kokama people, as well as the panorama of the Kokama language and the loss of linguistic diversity, in addition to the importance of documentation as a method used in the revitalization of endangered languages, based on Rodrigues (1985), Vallejos (2010), Freitas (2002), Cabral (1995), Malheiro (2020); Moore (2011), Storto (2019), D'Angelis (2019), Braggio (2012), Austin (2011), among others; the guiding principles for linguistic planning with results in favor of a public educational linguistic policy, based on the studies of Cooper (1989), Muller (2007), Rousseau (2005), and Calvet (2007). In addition to this theoretical foundation, the research explores the role of the Gerência de Educação Escolar Indígena – SEMED/Manaus (Management of Indigenous School Education - SEMED/Manaus) in indigenous school education in the municipality. As a result of this research, we have developed a book of ancestral narratives, titled: "Kumitsa ƗmƗnua Ritama Kokama - Ancestral Narratives of the Kokama People," as instructional material for the development of actions aimed at revitalizing, maintaining, and strengthening linguistic and cultural aspects, which constitute a viable public educational linguistic policy for other indigenous communities in urban areas.
