RESUMO:

In a Brazil marked by polarizations based on a capitalist social formation, in the first decades of the 2000s, the 'agribusiness'/'agro' formulations began to function under contradictory conditions. Discourses from a dominant class legitimize meanings for the exercise of power contests and try to contain polysemy through didacticization, in a strategic illusion of directing meanings and teaching about agriculture. Under these production conditions, this thesis has as its study object the discourses of/about Brazilian agribusiness, in order to achieve this goal, which is the understanding of processes of significance of agricultural activity in Brazil, giving visibility to the constitution, formulation and circulation of discursive materialities that build an imaginary for agriculture, in a struggle to establish/maintain/expand power. Assuming Discourse Analysis, founded by Michel Pêcheux, as a theory and method, we propose a reading of what is present and what escapes, placing meanings in relation. This methodology involves considering the production conditions, the observation of the language use and its description. To do this, it is necessary walk by intradiscursive chains, taking a step back to what makes an echo and what is present, due to historicity, in these ways of saying. The archive of this work is composed of official documents, books, reports, advertisements and posts on websites and digital social networks that make references to Brazilian agricultural activities, from the finding of Brazil to the present days. The analytical corpus is comprised of discursive sequences cut from the marks that were imposed on the issue of the production of meanings for Brazilian agriculture by the dominant class. As a gesture of contribution to Brazilian social formation, we understand that, faced with social conflict and the different meanings for agribusiness, women assume a political role, through a pedagogical commitment, in which they silence the business-agro and its interests and place in evidence an agro that would operate above a place of social conflict. This thesis was produced within the scope of the Postgraduate Program in Linguistics at the State University of Mato Grosso (PPGL/UNEMAT/CÁCERES), falling within the concentration area Studies of Linguistic Processes and the research line Studies of Discursive Processes.
