RESUMO:

This thesis is part of the line of research “Study of Discursive Processes” of the Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Program in Linguistics, at the State University of Mato Grosso - PPGL/UNEMAT. We adhere to the theory of French Discourse Analysis proposed and developed by Michel Pêcheux and to the theoretical developments elaborated in Brazil, particularly with the works of Eni Orlandi. With this work, we seek to understand how language works in relation to the constitution and/or maintenance of national identity in the irruption of discourses about the presence of Brazil in what was called the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). The corpus was delimited from discourses (institutional or not) that circulated between 2004 and 2017 – the duration of the mission –, available in Brazilian government publications (printed and online), as well as journalistic clippings of texts of the national and international press about the Brazilian presence in Haiti. This material constitutes our object of analyzes in which we discuss the theoretical notions of subject, discursive memory, conditions of production, inter/intradiscourse, discursive formation and imaginary formation. We start from the assumption that there is, through discourse, an identity construction, affirmation and/or imposition that is discursively sustained by the imaginary formation of Brazil, as a peaceful and solidary country, in the mission. We analyzed how this imaginary works in relation to discursive memory and the role of this memory in the discursive process of identifying the production of national identity, in different conditions of discourse production. The results of the corpus analysis showed that the discourses, for the most part, are constructed in the (re)affirmation/imposition of an imaginary about the Brazilian identity. Through discourse, we observe the imaginary projection of a peaceful and solidary country, discursively supported by subject-positions crossed by different discursive formations. In these crossings, the subject and meaning are constituted within these discursive formations, while establishing their own meaning relations, producing, through discourse, the effacement of heterogeneity, raising the effect of imaginary homogeneity of this discourse.
