This research is the result of the study developed under the theoretical contributions of Labovian Sociolinguistics, whose line of research is linked to the Studies of Variation and Change Processes of the Stricto Sensu Post-Graduation course in Linguistics at UNEMAT. One of our goals was to observe and analyze the linguistic uses in the lyrics of Cuiabanas songs, whose verses, rhythms, and sounds express the local linguistic and cultural diversity. We also aim to identify and interpret the linguistic attitudes of the composers towards the variants expressed in the compositions, as well as the representation of the Cuiabana identity through the variants and descriptions of local customs. Considering the varied repertoire of compositions that bring linguistic uses as identity elements in their lyrics, we selected as the corpus of analysis, six songs, all with regional characteristics, they are: a) “Cuiabana Food” (Dona Belinha), b) “Cuiabana Food homage to Cuiabá” (Ana Rafaela, Cover), c) “Girl, I ́m going to tell you” (Vera e Zuleica), d)“T The Cuiabana (Oxi)” (Vera e Zuleica), e) “Rap from Xô Dito to Cuiabá” (Thyago Mourão), f) “Don´t let our language die” (Thyago Mourão). The initial hypothesis was that the variants and lexical expressions represented in the compositions would have the function in the songs, designate the Cuiabano being through the “language” characteristic of the Baixada Cuiabana. In this sense, the results point to the phonetic-phonological uses, such as the characterizing and distinctive features of the Cuiabano language, which consisted of the mentioned compositions to the recurrence of the following linguistic uses, namely: “the realization of the affricates ʧ and ʤ”, “the apocope of the l and r at the end of words'', “raising the low central vowel [a] in a nasal ambiance”, and “the forms tchô and tchá or xô and xá. We also emphasize that despite the compositions presenting other linguistic varieties, we chose to analyze only the described ones, as these stood out in the mentioned arrangements. Regarding the composers' linguistic attitudes towards regional language, we found that the experience of linguistic variants in the songs is not random or just stylistic, because, in addition to designating the Cuiabano being, it shows the positive position of the composers in relation to them. Furthermore, these are not the only marks that represent the Cuiabano, as we found in these, varied descriptional preponderances of gastronomic diversity, the habits of the natives and their experiences, the climate, the instruments, and own rhythms, the lexicons with meanings and regional meanings. In addition, the six songs are representative and show the specificities of the Cuiabana´s identity from different angles, contributing to the dissemination, appreciation and preservation through the music, in this sense the compositions under study can be considered as a link of dissemination and preservation of the language and regional culture. Labovian Sociolinguistics was of great importance for the development of this research, as it provided us with the necessary theoretical and methodological support for the development of this study. In this sense, among the available sources, we adopted some relevant studies in/for the area, we can mention Labov (1972), Bright (1974), Fischer-Jonh (1974), Fischmam (1974), Lambert (1975), Tarallo (1997), Calvet (2002), among other researchers.
