RESUMO:

This research focuses on Toadas do Cururu, specifically with cururueiros from the city of Cáceres-MT, through the description and identification of characteristic aspects of speech. In this sense, it seeks to analyze what extent the process of linguistic variation in the context of the Cururu toadas in Mato Grosso, resist socioeconomic transformations and the evolution of speech styles, considering regionalism within the structuring and attempt to standardize Portuguese as a oficial language. At the same time, it seeks to understand the historical-cultural aspects from Mato Grosso speaking, observing if there is an incidence of linguistic prejudice. On the one hand, Cururu, as a cultural manifestation, brings the simplicity of the rural man who transforms everyday facts, his flirtations, his religiosity and his essence into varied tunes and rhythms. On the other hand, the curureiro speech style, fused with the rhythms and structure of the verses, makes the chants, sometimes, become incomprehensible or misunderstood by his interlocutors, a fact that sets a precedent for the incidence of linguistic prejudice. In this way, the investigation is located in Sociolinguistic Studies, having as references Labov, Bortoni-Ricardo, Tarallo, Bagno, among others that focus on the understanding of linguistic variation and the conception of prejudice against speech styles. Using a qualitative research methodology, the study draws on data resulting from participant observation, free conversations, and interviews with three informants, participants in the study. Among some preliminary results we obtained based on the transcription of the toadas and the interviews carried out, there is the presence variation at the phonological level in diphthongs, such as ‘outro/otro’; variation in the marking of the infinitive of the verb ‘cantar/canta’, ‘andar/andá’ and the phoneme /l/ of consonant clusters pronounced with /r/; as well as the absence of gender agreement.
