RESUMO:

The city of Cáceres-MT has the characteristic of receiving many immigrants, as it borders Bolivia. It is common for Bolivians, mainly from the city of San Matias, to immigrate to Brazil looking for better living conditions, considering that, due to the border and political agreements, there is a great demand for trade between countries. As a result of this reality, many Bolivians live in the city of Cáceres with their families. In this way, Bolivian children are enrolled in public schools and start attending classes. This factor is not restricted to children, many adult Bolivians are also enrolled in schools in the EJA (Youth and Adult Education) modality. Considering this reality, this research aims to analyze Portuguese language teaching practices for Bolivian immigrant students in public schools in Cáceres-MT. This study starts from the first principle that it is possible that immigrant students have different levels of knowledge of Portuguese, which can hinder them in their school education. We also consider the possible difficulties encountered by professionals who serve this audience, taking into account from training to the methodologies and approaches used by such professionals to meet the training demand of these students. So, to this work could be developed, we took as analytical corpus reports from teachers and pedagogues who had experiences with teaching Portuguese to Bolivian students. Data collection occurred through the application of a questionnaire. This research uses the theoretical propositions of Portuguese as a “Host Language” (Portuguese teaching for immigrants and refugees – PLAc in Portuguese initials), discussed in Brazil, mainly, by Barbosa and São Bernardo (2018), together with the dialogical conception of language, a theory derived from the Bakhtin Circle. It is, then, a case study that allowed us to carry out analyzes and reflections that demonstrated the status quo of Portuguese Language teaching practices for Bolivian immigrant students inserted in the public-school context in the city of Cáceres-MT.
