RESUMO:

This research is inscribed in the area of concentration "Study of Linguistic Processes", in the research line "Study of the Processes of Signification", of the Post-Graduate Program in Linguistics - PPGL of the Mato Grosso State University - UNEMAT.  The objective of this work is to analyze the construction of the meanings of the word politics in the enunciation of the ex-presidents of Brazil, Fernando Collor de Melo, Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, which occurred at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. These ex-presidents were chosen because they were the first three presidents elected by direct and free vote after the military dictatorship, that is, when the country was returning to the democratic State. We took the word politics as an object of analysis to understand how the ways of saying of the country's representatives, produced during the exercise of power, were politically constituted, considering the historical and social conditions that constitute them, and to verify how this word, when said, produces meanings for the restoration of democracy in Brazil. This thesis is theoretically based on the Semantics of the Event developed by Guimarães (1995, 2002, 2007, 2011, 2018) in Brazil, which defines it as an enunciative, political, historical and social semantics and which takes the term of politics in the functioning of enunciation as misunderstanding. The word politics in the presidential enunciations will be understood in its designation, by the functioning of the predication observed in the DSD process, Semantic Domain of Determination. The designation of this word allows us to verify the constitution of the political language by a word, by a name, in our case politics, because the designation is a language relation that produces meanings in the symbolic relation with the real when talking about it.   We seek to understand the polysemy of the word politics and to verify how these senses produced by the saying of the social place of the Presidency of the Republic, in the Brazilian enunciation space, contributes to the constitution of a way of saying the politician/politics of and in the State politics in Brazil, in different texts, from different speakers, according to the social and historical conditions of each ex-president.
