There are different ways to see and say about the space of the Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte Brotherhoods. The research path, the search for knowledge about these spaces and their members, the place of listening leads us to this affirmation and instigates us to say about this place of meanings. A religious space that receives evaluations, interpretations, spatializes knowledge and inscribes a history of meaning enunciations. This research is placed in the Area of Concentration of Studies of the Relations between Language, History and Institutions, it is inscribed in the Line of Research of the Studies of Meaning Processes. Therefore, we developed a semantic-enunciative study of the process of renaming of the Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte Brotherhoods, observing the question of how the nomination, the central object of analysis in this path, designates the space and its brotherhood. The proposed objective directed us to the different socio-historical determinations of the time in which the names were given. In this research, we did not only propose to tell the story of the brotherhoods, but to analyze how the naming process takes place from the perspective of Semantics of the Event, by Eduardo Guimarães (2002). From this perspective, we analyze the movement of semanticization of names, taking its operation as a way of historical and social determination that produces meanings – designations – for the brotherhood and its members. We chose as materiality of analysis the official name Irmandade Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte and the nominations that designate its members. The analyzes took place under three aspects: a) the morphosyntactic functioning, understanding that the proper name is a construction and that the morphological and syntactic relationships constitute it; b) the semantic-enunciative functioning, considering the nomination in relation to the enunciation space and the political, social and historical issues that determined these nominations; c) the memorable in the event of street names, taking it as functioning of the set of utterances already made. At first, we present the designations of the names that constitute the enunciative history of the brotherhood, since the historical course of the nominations allowed us to look more specifically at the past, and when we refer to the sayings about the origin of the brotherhoods, we understand what to say the origin of these spaces necessarily implies saying the origin, specifically, of the Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte Brotherhood of Cachoeira-BA. We understand from the analyzes that the functioning of the name is a way of analyzing the relationship between the brotherhood's past, therefore, and its current conditions. We point out that the resistance, which is configured in this space, is an "index" of the brotherhood's past, therefore of its meaning. Through the analytical path, we show that the naming process is not something that happens randomly, the subject who nominates is managed to enunciate one way and not another, and these nominations work from a memorable set of utterances already said. The reflection on the functioning of the name Irmandade Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte and Irmãs da Boa Morte allowed us to understand the very history of the constitution of this religious space in Cachoeira-BA, Brazil.
