RESUMO:

This study presents the analysis of the name of the first capital of Mato Grosso, "Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade", whose meanings are produced in enunciative events that say the name of the municipality in historical documents (Foundation Act of Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade and the Royal Letter of 1746). In other words, we analyze the semantic movement of the name of the first capital of Mato Grosso and, in this way, we show the constitution of the designative semantic network of the naming event built in the enunciative relations of the functioning of the name. And concomitantly we present a comparison of the teaching of the proper noun done by traditional grammar, and the attempts to insert semantic concepts in Brazilian teaching with the study of the proper noun by the Theory of Event of Guimarães (2002, 2011, 2018) proposing, as an example, the analysis of the meanings of the proper noun in question, "Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade". As a theoretical and methodological support, we make use of the assumptions of the Semantics of Event theory, developed by Guimarães (2002, 2011, 2018), in Brazil. A semantics that considers that the analysis of the meanings of language should take place in the study of enunciation, in the event of saying.
