RESUMO:

This research is based on the theoretical constructs of Educational Sociolinguistics, inserted in the Research Line Study of Processes of Variation and Change, to which the research line is part of the Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Linguistics at the State University of Mato Gross (UNEMAT). The theoretical framework of this study defends the teaching of Linguistic Variation in Teaching and its main objective is to investigate and understand how the approach of Linguistic Variation occurs in the teaching and learning process of the Portuguese Language, based on the analysis in Portuguese Language Textbooks from High School used in public schools in the State of Mato Grosso. Thus, two corpora were analyzed, composed of the Official Documents Guiding the Teaching of Portuguese Language in Brazil and the Textbooks of Portuguese Language indicated for High School, in PNLD 2016. For the analysis of the Guiding Documents for Teaching, five (5) documents were considered: the Political Pedagogical Project, National Curriculum Parameters, Document for Basic Education of the State of Mato Grosso (DRC-MT), National Book and Didactic Material Program (PNLD) and Common National Curriculum Base (BNCC). In the same way, eleven (11) collections of teaching materials were analyzed, with the purpose of verifying how linguistic variation is approached in the theoretical part of contents and activities. Thus, the analysis of teaching materials was carried out following a script consisting of five (5) open questions, adapted to the studies by Lima (2014). The basis of this research is related to the studies by Alkmim (2001); Bagno (1999, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2013,2015); Bortoni-Ricardo (2004, 2005, 2014); Calvet (2002); Faraco (2008, 2013, 2015); Lima (2014); Lucchesi (2015); Martins et al (2016); Mollica (2003); Tarallo (1985) and Labov (1972). This is a descriptive, qualitative research, which references its characteristics, qualities and peculiarities through investigation, observation, data collection and evaluation. The result of this Thesis made it possible to extract and obtain the following results: a) the Official Documents Guiding the Teaching and Learning of Portuguese Language are not sufficiently elucidative and instructive regarding the approach of teaching Sociolinguistics and Linguistic Variety in teaching material, b) in general, in most cases, textbook collections propose explanatory content and activities, but they cannot shrewdly clarify language teaching and especially linguistic variation, that is, being guided by theoretical explanation and without "depth ” pedagogical, being also proposed in single chapters, and always comparing with normative prescriptions of the language, in what is right or wrong, beautiful or ugly, usual and unusual. Therefore, given these results, the indispensability of greater investment in teacher training and qualification is evident; re-elaboration of Teaching Guidance Documents to provide a more enlightening and illustrative content; and finally, the updating, increment and innovation of teaching materials, providing opportunities for a more understandable writing about the teaching of Language and Linguistic Variation.
