RESUMO:

This work is inscribed in the research line ‘Studies of Meaning Processes of the Postgraduate Program Stricto Sensu in Linguistics, at the University of the State of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT). It aims to show how the notional domain of the lexical morto/morte/morrer is build. Therefore, we rely on the Theory of Predicative and Enunciative Operations (TPEO) by Antoine Culioli (1990, 1999a, 1999b, 2018) and his followers such as Franckel (2006, 2011), Paillard (2011), De Vogüé (2011), Rezende (2000, 2006, 2011), Lima (2000, 2013, 2019), Onofre (2006), Pria (2009, 2013, 2014, 2019), Cumpri (2010, 2012, 2019), Romero (2000). We defend that the meanings of morto/morte/morrer are not given, but constructed in the utterance through a dynamic interaction; as well as that the variation of meaning of these units is related to regular principles, that is, that it occurs in plans of variations governed by a singular organization. These statements constitute the problem of our research, once we ask: how does the semantic-enunciative functioning of these linguistic marks occur? What are their identities considering the diversity of meanings in their occurrences, ranging from commonplace statements to idiomatic expressions, proverbs and popular sayings? Will they always be in antonymy relations with vivo/vida/viver? For this purpose, our corpus consists of twelve utterances collected from day by day occurrences whose analyzes aim to prove the hypothesis that the crystallizations that place 'morte' and 'vida' in a relationship of complementarity (opposition) are not sustained when operations of language are considered.
