RESUMO:

This present study, enrolled in the Research from Variation and Changing Research line from the Stricto Sensu Graduating Program in Linguistics from the State University from Mato Grosso (UNEMAT), it was developed by the theoretical and methodological contributions from Pluridimensional Dialectology, based on the study from Radke & Thun (1996). Thun (1998), and from Africanism in the country of Brazil, based on the studies from Alkmim; Peter (2009). It aimed to analyze and describe the variation from Portuguese spoken in Afro-Brazilian rural communities, considering the relations of African languages in contact with Portuguese spoken in Brazil. In Barra do Bugres- MT there are four Afro-descendant communities registered and certified by Palmares Foundation, this way, we have chosen to develop the studies in four of them: São José do Baixiu, Camarinha, and Morro Redondo and Vaca Morta, that is located in the countryside, 74km from Barra do Bugres-MT. The main focus of this research was to develop a study based on speech and Linguistic Awareness (LA) in Afro-Brazilian Communities, more specifically, at “Vão Grande” Community, located in the town of Barra do Bugres-MT. The study of the speech from Quilombola Communities from the state of Mato Grosso was contrasted with data from the Linguistic Atlas from the involved regions and with the Linguistic Atlas from Brazil (ALiB) and other necessary studies. The main part from the research was developed of 15 interviews, transcribed and analyzed. To develop the Research in the Quilombola Communities area, we have selected the interviewee, some criteria were established, such as: education, having been born in the community or the one that  have lived most of the life there, who enjoy talking, and not having lived outside of the community for a long time. We also selected people from African descent, in the Communities, to apply the Questionnaire formulated by Alkmim; Petter (2009), composed of 249 words of African origin. This way, the results obtained in the analyzes of the mentioned communities showed a predominance of the [+] afro variants, that is, the largest number of words of African origin, presented in “São José do Baixiu” Community, in real use in both sexes. In “Camarinha” Community and “Morro Redondo” Community, both did not differ on the results, as they present the variants [-afro], in Portuguese language.
