This work is inscribed in the research line of Signification Processes of the Postgraduate Program in Linguistics of the University of the State of Mato Grosso (Brazil). It intends to show how the verb PASSAR is organized in Brazilian Portuguese, based on the Theory of Predicative and Enunciative Operations (TOPE). Culioli (1990) innovates by presenting linguistics with a new way of doing science proposing the search for linguistic data as a result of the articulation between language through the diversity of natural languages. In this work, we will make a historical delimitation about the word class “verbs” and about the dictionaries and cataloging of words in order to understand the meaning “given” by traditionalism and structuralism, since in TOPE the meaning is not given but constructed. We oppose any characterization based on a supposedly pre-established cognitive category, or on cognitive considerations that do not take into account the observation of linguistic forms. Thus we intuit that PASSAR and other dictionaries lexicons do not intend to present the identity. We see only inventoried meanings that present ready results in which there is no process to be built. In this direction, based on the theoretical assumptions of TOPE; through the selected statements we will understand the operation of PASSAR from the pre-construct and the targeted representation of each enunciated.
