RESUMO:

This research is linked to the Postgraduate Program in Education (PPGEdu/UNEMAT), line of research Teacher Training, Policies and Pedagogical Practices, its central objective is to identify the main challenges that students from public schools face in terms of permanence in higher education. The locus of the research is the State University of Mato Grosso – UNEMAT, “Jane Vanini” University Campus in the municipality of Cáceres, the time span corresponds to the years 2020 to 2023. Considering as a reference the journey of thirty-seven students who joined UNEMAT at the beginning of 2020/1. The research subjects completed high school in 2019 at a state public education institution in the city of Cáceress-MT that exclusively serves this stage of education. The courses they enrolled in were agronomy, biological sciences, accounting sciences, computer sciences, law, physical education, nursing, geography, history, letters, mathematics and pedagogy. We seek to answer the following problem: What are the impacts of student assistance policies – PAE/UNEMAT on the retention of students from public basic education in higher education, considering both the challenges faced and the advances achieved? This is research carried out based on methodological reference based on quantitative and qualitative concepts, in this sense, two investigative approach methods will be used. Different forms of data collection were used, including the database of the Research Group on Access and Permanence in Higher Education GEPAPES/UNEMAT registered with CNPq. The data collection instruments were documentary sources, such as the National Student Assistance Program – PNAES, the National Student Assistance Program for State Public Higher Education Institutions – PNAEST with a focus on institutional policies and practices related to access and permanence. adopted by UNEMAT and a semi-structured questionnaire.
