RESUMO:

Modern society is constantly changing due to the rapid emergence of new technologies, especially digital ones. However, the same level of impact has not been observed in educational systems. Additionally, the insertion of new technologies requires society to master new skills, including, in the current scenario, computational thinking. In this research work we sought to understand the contributions and difficulties that emerge from the use of educational robotics, using the PictoBlox programming software and Arduíno Uno board, to develop Mathematics and computational thinking skills with high school students. Data production was carried out through a teaching experiment lasting sixty hours, involving 12 (twelve) high school students from the city of Barra do Bugres - MT. To achieve this objective, the research addressed the following guiding question: “What are the main contributions and difficulties of educational robotics, using the PictoBlox visual programming software and Arduino Uno board, for teaching Mathematics and the development of computational thinking with high school students?”. Data collection procedures and instruments included participant observation, questionnaires, conversation circles and audiovisual records of the meetings. The study followed a qualitative approach, as suggested by Bicudo (2012), aligned with the interpretative perspective of Creswell (2007), framed in the applied research category of Rodrigues et al. (2007). Data analysis was conducted using the Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA) approach of Moraes (2003) and Moraes and Galiazzi (2006). The analysis under development revealed three fundamental categories: (i) ‘Robotics with PictoBlox software and Arduino Uno board’, with three subcategories and ten meaning units; (ii) ‘Development of Mathematics and computational thinking skills through educational robotics’, with two subcategories and five units of meaning; (iii) ‘Usability and potential of the PictoBlox software’, with a subcategory and four units of meaning. The data highlights the potential for using educational robotics when applied with the PictoBlox software and Arduino Uno board in an educational resource. Highlighting its relevance in mobilizing and developing mathematical and computational thinking skills among high school students.
