The changes that occur in the environment put pressure on vegetation, making ecosystems more vulnerable. These changes require morphophysiological adjustments from plants such as height, hydraulic conductivity and wood density. The association of leaf and wood attributes form useful parameters for understanding plant strategies, such as water use efficiency and resistance to drought, in addition to contributing to the understanding of vegetation responses to climate change. We know that the combinations of leaf and wood attributes need to be studied more deeply, so in order to understand how the species behave in relation to the environment in which they are inserted, our study aims to investigate and compare the strategies of plants of Cerrado-Amazon transition (Cerradão and Amazonian savanna) in order to understand the structure and function relationship between leaf and wood. We carried out the study in the Cerrado-Amazon transition region in the north of the State of Mato Grosso, in two municipalities, which are Nova Canaã do Norte and Alta Floresta. We collected four woody species (Dacryodes microcarpa, Emmotum nitens, Myrcia splendens and Simarouba versicolor) replicating the same species in both areas. For each sample we performed measurements of 25 leaf and wood attributes, in addition to estimated height, diameter at breast height and density. The species studied in both areas present leaf and wood anatomical variations, and M. splendens was the one that most presented attributes with statistical differences.
