This dissertation aims to present the processing of linguistic variation by speakers of Formoso do Araguaia (TO), tracing Sociolinguistic representations under the semantic-lexical aspect of the speech(s) of migrants born or living in this community. The starting question is: how and why does linguistic variety in this region shape the lexical terms spoken in this municipality? Therefore, a qualitative methodology is chosen, based on Pluridimensional and Relational Dialectology, Thun's cross system (2010), the three-step technique: ask, insist and suggest and the application of the Lexical Semantic Questionnaire (QSL) of the Linguistic Atlas of Brazil (ALiB). A survey of variants is carried out in two survey points: urban and rural areas. Informants are chosen, organized into four groups, according to the varieties of Portuguese: Maranhão (PM), Gaucho (PG), Caipira (PC) and Ribeirinho (PR). Informants from the lower class (Cb) are selected from the contact context of the region and less educated, grouped into two generations: the oldest (GII) and the youngest (GI) and equally divided into: male and female, representing 48 informants. The analyzes consider lexias from the fourteen semantic areas, according to their occurrence, frequency and divergence. The data are mapped on maps that document the variants found. And finally, this research results in a linguistic atlas of this region.
