How meanings about the Amazon are constructed in the reportages produced by TVCA in northern Mato Grosso between 2016 and 2022

This study looks at the journalistic discourse in the Amazon region in seven reportages produced by TV Centro América (TVCA) de Sinop, in northern Mato Grosso. The reportages form the corpus of this research, beginning in 2016 when TVCA Sinop expanded its coverage area and began generating content for 32 municipalities in the northern region of Mato Grosso, and continuing until 2022. The theoretical and methodological procedures that guide this research are under the perspective of historical materialist French Discourse Analysis. The concepts of discourse, effects of meaning, discursive formation, imaginary formation, and ideology are taken from Michel Pêcheux, a French philosopher and founder of this theory, and Eni Orlandi, an author of this theoretical perspective in Brazil. In order to understand how the production of meanings takes place, authors who deal with telejournalism, such as Flavio Porcello, Cicilia Peruzzo, Nilson Lage, and others, were also contacted. In the conclusions, it is pointed out that issues related to indigenous/native culture, tourism, geographic concerns, and people living in the region are hardly addressed in the reports, while the gaucho culture and agribusiness are highlighted, not even mentioning the presence of the Amazon as a geographic area.
