The municipality of Alta Floresta, located in the extreme north of the state of Mato Grosso, belongs to the Southern Amazon, and the micro-region of Alta Floresta, formed by six municipalities: Alta Floresta, Apiacás, Carlinda, Nova Monte Verde, Nova Bandeirantes and Paranaíta. The predominant economic activities in this region are: livestock, agriculture and plant extraction. Due to its history of agricultural occupation and forestry, the region lacks research aimed at developing sustainable exploration models and studies on local biological diversity, meeting the demand for regional botanical knowledge. In this context, the possibility of development of the Amazon region cannot be decontextualized from the conservationist approach, mainly in relation to the use of its forests, rivers, landscapes and biological diversity.
